The Allante was a joint venture between GM and legendary Italian design house Pininfarina. Between 1986 and 1983, about 21,000 example were built. The body was designed and built by Pininfarina in Italy and shipped to Detroit via specially equipped Boeing 747s, where it was mated to the chassis and assembly was completed. To say that this was a unique arrangement is an understatement. The Allante is not just unparalleled, it just true collectible that will only increase in value. There were 2500 Allantes built in 1991, and this one is somewhat of a rare bird. Only 287 were painted black, and just 275 had the analog gauges that this one does. That combination yielded just 39 Allantes in 1991, and if you add in the Dark Charcoal interior, there were just 24 others like this one. 1991 Saw a host of upgrades for the model, the most notable being a power latching mechanism for the convertible top. The previous version was much-maligned for being cumbersome and time consuming. While this is not a one-button solution, it is a huge improvement. Other changes for '91 include a new air intake resonator for quieter performance, larger intake valves and straighter intake ports on the cylinder heads for improved power, a 2nd generation speed-sensitive damping system for a better ride, and improved steering with a revised rack-and-pinion power steering system. But, of course, this car is more about style and luxury than it is about technology. It is beautiful to look at, and a true pleasure to drive. It's also loaded with comfort and convenience features like leather seats with power controls (driver's memory), auto climate control, a BOSE audio system with CD and Cassette, power windows. locks and mirrors, a trip computer, cruise control, auto headlamps, headlamp washers, fog lamps, alloy wheels and much more. The manual is with the car, and so are the Allante floor mats and the mini-covers for the top. This Allante also has Cadillac mudflaps to help keep the car clean. Speaking of clean - this car is very much so. It has obviously been well cared for throughout its life. In fact, the previous owner recently spent about $3000 to bring it up to spec.
