I am the original, non-smoking owner who has used this car primarily for highway driving between Washington, DC and our mountain cabin in West Virginia. Recent service has included (1) new steering control arms, (2) inner and outer front tie rods and CVC joints & boots, (3) front wheel alignment, (4) new power window regulators (all 4 windows), and (5) new xenon headlight control units. New Kumho Ecsta 235/45 ZR17 high performance radial tires were mounted at 119.5K miles (from my perspective, these drive and handle better than the original Pirelli P6’s). New brake pads & rotors were installed at 93K. A new used engine, high-performance clutch, engine mounts, timing belt, new hoses and belts were all installed at 128,000 miles (due to an oil sludge engine failure, a widespread problem in 1999 - 2004 1.8T engines; unfortunately, because I was particularly conscientious about oil changes, I couldn't file a claim under the manufacturer's recall, which expired in 2011). The replacement engine was identified by the reseller as a 2005 with 68K miles (unfortunately, despite modern technology, there is no way to confirm this through markings or the engine computer system). The exterior is in very good shape, with strong clearcoat finish that still beads water when clean. There are several minor rear bumper scratches from on-street parking and one small ding on each side of car. Four alloy wheels and the full-size spare show curb rash, which is easily repairable. Finally, there is an issue with the left rear wheel sensor, which periodically causes the ABS indicator light to illuminate. Both the AUDI dealer and my mechanic advise that the ABS still functions on the other three wheels (as well as on this one when the indicator is not lighted). Although the repair estimate is only $300.00, I’ve elected to not have this work done, since I already have invested so much in the car. The car runs great (a fine cruiser at 80 mph on the interstate) and you should have very few maintenance costs for the next several thousand miles. The car also comes with an exterior cover and storage sack, as well as all service records, the original A4 brochure, and even the factory window sticker. The interior, which still has leather seating in excellent condition (see photos), could pass for new. If there were any way I could justify keeping this car, I would (my wife consistently reminds me that there is no such justification). So I’m letting it go for approximately what I’ve put into it during the past two years ... alas, my loss is your gain. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed; I’ve taken extremely good care of this car. The original invoice price was $32,335.00. Good luck with your shopping, and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. .
