Beautiful Alfa Spider Quad for sale by owner. Red exterior with black canvas top, grey leather seats with red stitching, red carpets. Well maintained and cared for. Absolutely no rust, as this car has lived exclusively in California and Texas. Top and tires are excellent. Less than 86,000 miles. The Quadrifoglio was the top of the line Alfa Spider and included factory air conditioning, upgraded wheels, enhanced exterior trim. Quadrifoglios all came with special gray leather seats with red stitching, red carpet in interior and trunk, and were offered in three exterior colors: red, black, silver. This car no longer has the hardtop which came with the Quadfoglio models, but I have seen used Quad hardtops available for sale for around $500. As seen in the photos, the car currently has a Momo steering wheel, but I have an original Alfa steering wheel which will go with the car. Also included will be a car cover and battery trickle charger. Everything works as it should on this car. Service within the past six months include new radiator, lower oil pan gasket, all new fluids including coolant, oil, brake/clutch fluid. Air conditioning just recharged and blows cold. And the one to own is probably this 1978 Alfa Romeo Spider Niki Lauda edition, one of 350 or so built that year to commemorate Brabham Alfa Romeo's partnership with driver Niki Lauda in Formula One. Beautifully maintained, it is pure Italian magic with a very reasonable price tag. The Niki Lauda cars were all painted in Brabham F1 livery, bright red with white and blue stripes and wore a three piece fiberglass spoiler out back that would become standard equipment on later Spiders. This particular Spider was repainted in 2007 and they did a spectacular job, capturing the essential Italian look and exotic flavor of the car. Obviously, it helps to start with good base stock, and with just 50,606 miles on the clock, this car was obviously a fair-weather toy all its life. They decided to leave the stripes off when it was repainted (they were only decals anyway, so it would be easy to replace them) but all the special emblems remain, signifying this as one of the special Niki Lauda cars (#216 out of 350, to be precise). Finish quality is quite good and there were no liberties taken with the design, so the lovely covered headlights, big rubber bumpers, and offset tailpipe all remain intact. There's not much chrome, but the lovely Alfa Romeo script on the tail, the stainless bumper inserts, and door handles remain in excellent shape. The handsome black leather interior is beautifully appointed in the way that only the Italians seem to have mastered. The driving position is excellent and even though that shifter looks odd, it works well and feels quite natural on the road. Bucket seats hold just snugly enough and the door panels are in great shape, as are the black carpets. The wood-rimmed wheel is elegant and just what this car should be carrying and the big, round gauges from Jaeger are elegant and simple. The switch gear and controls for the ventilation system are typically confusing in the Italian way, but shockingly, the A/C is fully functional and the AM/FM/cassette stereo sounds great. There's a reasonably-sized trunk in back, also nicely finished with black carpet, and the black convertible top looks almost new. But the real reason people love and drive Alfa Romeos is the powerplant. The 2.0 liter twin cam inline-four isn't about horsepower, but it does love to rev, makes beautiful sounds, and pulls the little roadster around with ease. Running through the gears, it's easy to see Niki Lauda himself behind the wheel, smiling, as the machine does its thing. Yes, it really does feel different. Extensive service records totaling almost $10,000 show that this is no neglected beater, but a cherished toy that has always been treated well. It starts easily and sounds fantastic exhaling through a 4-2-1 header and new exhaust system. Many of the suspension components are new, the fuel pump has been replaced, and the underside is original but quite clean, so it's ready to enjoy without a second thought. Beautiful alloy wheels remain in excellent condition with no curb rash or corrosion and wear 195/70/14 blackwall radials. Ancillary: Last 100 miles New electric fuel pumpNew battery Body: Car has had one respray due to a small hit on the right side, which was repaired with bondo (not my preference) and then resprayed. In my opinion, clear coat was done poorly and should be redone if you want to make this a "show quality" car. This is not easily noticable but the trained eye could spot it immediately.There is a butt-cheek dent in the front nose cone, which should pop out easily and a small nickel size dent in the right rear quarter panel and should be an easy fix.Left rocker-panel is rusted and will need to be replaced. I have the new part still in bubble wrap that will come with the car.Right rocker-panel has cracking bondo that will also need to be addressed.Rest of body is bondo free, rust free and all hinges and hardware are in excellent working order.Rear wing (spoiler) has remained soft and textured. Appears non faded and presents well.The top shows wear, but seals well. Has no leaks and rear window is clear.Car comes with original jack, tool kit, manual and brochures.Floor pans and chassis have been inspected for rust and found to be rust free and in excellent condition. Interior: All gauges and lights work perfectly. The 55 mph buzzer needs to be replaced or bypassed, because on occassion when you reach 55 the speedometer will drop to zero. It is not illegal to bypass this buzzer as it was a part of the 80's 55mph speed limit hysteria.There is a 4" hairline crack in dash. (see pic) that is a recent defect on my own volition that I have no excuse for.Door cards are warped, but leather, hardware and finish panels are in good condition. Original wood-grain steering wheel and shifter are beautiful and present very well.At one point the horn quit working from the steering wheel. I did not have access to an Alfa mechanic. So I bypassed the steering wheel and had a horn button installed on the steering column. This allowed me to pass inspection and I never go around to repairing this properly. Again, this should be an easy fix.Radio works, looks great.Seats and carpets are original. They are blemish and tear free. They show little wear, if any. Although car is rarely driven, it has been kept indoors and on a trickle charger. It is started regularly and monthly it is taken out and all gears are run through to keep it drivable. The only other defect that I am aware of is on very rare occasions during long drives and long engine running periods, the car will act as if the battery is dead. However, if you let it sit 10 minutes it will start right up. This does not happen every time, but you should be aware that it can happen and I carry a portable Hotshot just incase this happens and I don't want to wait the 10 minutes...for whatever reason this does the trick. I have had the starter solenoid alternator and the wiring checked and no problems were found. I am mystified. However, I have not conferred with other Alfa owners on this problem, so it could be something quite simple. Oil is changed every year, even if it's been driven less than 100 miles as are all fluids. Gas is treated with high octane booster and water remover. Car starts right up, purrs like a kitten, loves rpm and corners on rails. I never drive it in the rain or the cold winter. I have described this car as honest as humanly possible. Alfa prices are all over the map. With the work that has been done to this car, my reserve of $6500 is possibly the fairest of any Alfa on Ebay. I am not trying to milk this car for every nickel it's worth. We have very detailed pictures posted here, minor rust in spare tire well, minor rust in rear floor, some minor bubbling in lower rear doglegs. This has to be one of the best originals in existence. The lacquer paint is heavily checked; the interior is all original and survivor quality. Original jack, spare, tool kit (almost complete missing pliers and screwdriver). Original owners manual kit. The engine turns over freely it is not stuck. We have not attempted to get it running. We believe that a fuel system clean/rebuild and hydraulics this car would run and drive. All 5 tires match but would not be safe to drive on. The car appears to be correct and complete with exception of passenger front fog light lense, this was the actual reason the car was parked. A new lense could not be located. It is a numbers matching car with all build/ID tags still on the car. Other Italian Spiders of this vintage are now unobtainable due to sky rocketing values. Taxes and Registration fees: Out of state buyers are responsible for all state, county, city taxes and fees, as well as title service fees in the state that the vehicle will be registered. All taxes and fees must be paid in full in order for vehicle to be titled and registered. 9. Title Information: Vehicles titles may be held by banks or lenders as collateral for loans. In many cases there is a delay in receiving the original instruments up to 21 days from the time we pay a vehicle off. While we usually have all titles in our possession at closing, there are occasions where we may be waiting for them to arrive. If payment is made by cashier's or personal checks we will hold all titles for 10 days or until funds have cleared. 10. Shipping & Delivery: a. All shipping charges are buyer's responsibility. Collins Brothers will help with shipping arrangements but will not be responsible in any way for claims arising from shipping damage! b. Licensed Carriers are generally insured for $3,000,000.00. We assume no responsibility for damages incurred after the vehicle leaves our facility. All shipping arrangements are provided by Collins Brothers as a courtesy. We are not affiliated with any carrier. Any claims or other communication regarding shipment of vehicles will be between you and the shipper, not with Collins Brothers. c. The amount of time it takes for delivery is dependent on the carrier, but is generally 7-14 days from the date the vehicle is picked up from our facility until it is delivered to your destination. Verify with the shipper for an Estimate Time of Arrival to be sure. 11. Finalizing your Purchase: a. Collins Brothers will contact the successful high bidder by e-mail after the auction closes. b. Successful high bidder MUST communicate with Dennis at Collins Bothers by e-mail or phone (972) 442-6189 ex 226 within 24 hours of the auction ending to make arrangements to complete their transaction. If we cannot confirm your intention to buy or the sale is not completed within 5 days, we reserve the right to relist this vehicle or sell to any other qualified buyer. c. In order to secure bid on vehicle, Successful bidder (BUYER) must within 24 hours of bid closing send to Seller a Deposit in the amount of 10% by major credit card, cash or bank certified funds. Within 72 hours of bid closing, Buyer must send balance of funds by wire transfer, cash, bank certified funds to Seller. d. At time of sending initial deposit, Buyer MUST fax copy of their State issued valid Driver License. This car was driven sparingly from 1960-1971 then was parked in a dry West Texas garage. It has 27,249 actual miles. Very solid, straight, complete and correct. We have very detailed pictures posted here, minor rust in spare tire well, minor rust in rear floor, some minor bubbling in lower rear doglegs. This has to be one of the best originals in existence. The lacquer paint is heavily checked; the interior is all original and survivor quality. Original jack, spare, tool kit (almost complete missing pliers and screwdriver). Original owners manual kit. The engine turns over freely it is not stuck. We have not attempted to get it running. We believe that a fuel system clean/rebuild and hydraulics this car would run and drive. All 5 tires match but would not be safe to drive on. The car appears to be correct and complete with exception of passenger front fog light lense, this was the actual reason the car was parked. A new lense could not be located. It is a numbers matching car with all build/ID tags still on the car. Other Italian Spiders of this vintage are now unobtainable due to sky rocketing values. There are 2 recent sales of 2000 spiders in the $150k range and many experts feel that these are way under valued. Stored for many years with fuel bottle fed directly to carburetor. New battery and new distributor, original Magneti Marelli distributor comes with the car. We could not find a replacement distributor cap, this is the reason the prior owner parked the car. Also includes factory shop manual.The engine starts easily, no smoking or knocking, 55-60 PSI oil pressure. We also flushed radiator and put in fresh antifreeze so the car can be shipped worldwide. Please watch the video of the engine starting, running and oil pressure gauge. U.S. car engine number located on intake side of engine is AR00526*23805* Body number stamped on passenger side firewall is AR170322 Alfa Romeo tag on firewall reads Giulietta Spider Type 10103. Odometer shows 61,880 and is believed to be actual. This is a very solid dry car with rust confined to passenger side rocker panel and lower front fender; floors are very solid including trunk floor. Please view all 87 detailed pictures. This will be an easy restoration or service hydraulics and drive with patina. We have not serviced the clutch or brake hydraulics. The engine is sound, plan on a fuel system cleaning and valve cover gasket at minimum. This car is titled as a 1963 but from several replies it may have been built in 1960 please do your own research. The number on the title matches the car. There are two extra blocks that go with the deal 1st engine number is AR1315*40367* 2nd is AR00536*16155* if you have a source to decode these please send us a response and we will post in this auction. Also included is a very heavy tote full of engine parts. Please view all pictures. 40376 is a pretty early 750D Spider engine. I think a 536 prefix is 105 Giulia 1600 Normal, not totally sure though. We could not find a replacement distributor cap, this is the reason the prior owner parked the car. Also includes factory shop manual. The engine starts easily, no smoking or knocking, 55-60 PSI oil pressure. We also flushed radiator and put in fresh antifreeze so the car can be shipped worldwide. U.S. car engine number located on intake side of engine is AR00526*23805* Body number stamped on passenger side firewall is AR170322 Alfa Romeo tag on firewall reads Giulietta Spider Type 10103. Odometer shows 61,880 and is believed to be actual. This is a very solid dry car with rust confined to passenger side rocker panel and lower front fender; floors are very solid including trunk floor. Please view all 87 detailed pictures. This will be an easy restoration or service hydraulics and drive with patina. We have not serviced the clutch or brake hydraulics. The engine is sound, plan on a fuel system cleaning and valve cover gasket at minimum. This car is titled as a 1963 but from several replies it may have been built in 1960 please do your own research. The number on the title matches the car.
