You are bidding on a 1958 Alfa Romeo Spider. This is the desirable early 750 series, and even more desirable because it is originally a black car with red interior, which was verified by Mr. Fazio of the Alfa archives in Italy. It does not appear to have ever been repainted. It has been in storage for over 30 years. The previous owner was going to do a valve job, so he removed the head, put it in the trunk with some of the other engine ancillaries, and never worked on it again. The engine and transmission, as well as all the associated engine parts, air cleaner, etc, are original to the car and the engine is matching numbers. I checked the dates on most of the Lucas electrics on the car, and they are all dated 1958, meaning they are almost certainly the original ones that came with the car when it was new. This includes the coil, regulator, starter, generator, etc. There is some rust here and there on the car, and I have tried to show all the rusty areas in the pictures. The car will need new floors and some patches here and there. The previous owner was apparently going to replace the floors, so he cut out the rusty areas, which is why the holes in the floors are squared off. There is no evidence of any accident damage on the car. This is a very complete and original car. The parts you don't see in or on the car are in the trunk. The only thing I noticed that was missing was the air cleaner. I expect payment within 5 days of the end of the auction. The car can be picked up after your check has cleared my bank. You are bidding on a 1959 Alfa Romeo Sprint Veloce. This is the desirable early 750 series. It has been in storage since the early ‘80s. The previous owner was going to rebuild the engine at that time, so he removed it, dismantled it, and never worked on it again. The engine and transmission, as well as all the associated engine parts, air cleaner, etc, are original to the car and the engine is matching numbers. This is very unusual for an early Sprint Veloce as they were usually thrashed and then they received replacement engines. This car was originally sold in Canada and spent most of its time there until about 5 or 6 years ago when it was imported to the USA. There is some rust here and there on the car, and I have tried to show all the rusty areas in the pictures. Most of the rust can be replaced without having to buy repair panels. There is no evidence of any accident damage on the car. This is a very complete and original car, still having the Carello headlights it came with from the factory. I believe the 59,000 miles or so showing on the odometer are probably correct. Someone replaced the original red and light gray interior in the car with black, although the rear seats and paneling ares still the correct, original ones. According to the Alfa archivist, Mr. Fazio, the car was originally red with the red and gray interior. If you follow auction results of 750 Sprint Veloces, you probably are aware that the last few well-restored examples have sold last year in the $150,000 range.
