RARE and VERY SPECIAL MOPAR: This particular AAR Cuda is a very rare and special car. With only 2,724 AAR Cudas ever produced – of which only 1,120 came with 4-speed transmissions - this is a very rare Mopar. Making this car even rarer and more special is the fact that it is a true survivor, highly original, and unrestored car in mint condition with less than only 35,000 original miles. As if this wasn’t enough, the car came for the private collection of NASCAR legend Ray Evernham. Ray Evernham is a 3-time NASCAR champion crew chief for Jeff Gordon, and was named the NASCAR Winston Cup Illustrated “Person of the Year” in 1999. Ray presently serves as a consultant to Hendrick Motorsports and hosts Velocity's TV show "AmeriCarna". He is also a classic car analyst for the Barrett Jackson car auctions. Ray is a great guy and philanthropist. He is very active for the cause of autism, and has a foundation named the Evernham Family Racing for a Reason. Finally, this special AAR Cuda just received Top Show Honors at the 2015 Le Concours de Livingston - an invitation only concourse event featuring over 100 premier classic cars and motorcycles. THEY'RE ONLY ORIGINAL ONCE: As mentioned above, this 1970 AAR Cuda it is a true survivor, highly original, and unrestored car in mint condition with less than only 35,000 original miles. The AAR-spec 340 Six Barrel engine is unstamped, and verified to be a warranty replacement by the original selling Plymouth dealership, which took place in 1971. With the exception of the dealer installed warranty replacement block, upgraded radio tires, battery, belts and hoses, the remainder of the car is all original and in fantastic survivor condition; including the Six Barrel carburetors, 4-speed transmission (D21) and rear differential (D57), fast ratio power steering (S74), power disc brakes, side exhaust (N44), very rare Elastomeric (A21) colored front bumper, wheels, all the body metal, chrome, trunk compartment, floorboards, black high bucket vinyl seats, carpet, dash, instrument panel, solid state AM radio (R11), and the finally, the all original high impact yellow paint (Lemon Twist, code FY1). In review of the pictures including in this listing, please pay special attention to the “hurray up and get these AAR Cudas out the factory door” paint over-spray in the engine compartment, trunk, and undercarriage. The first picture of the trunk shows paint drippings very common of original factory paint jobs. Again, this is a non-restored car, with all original metal and paint! MINT UNRESTORED CONDITION: This is an unrestored survivor in excellent condition. The body is rust free and straight, and the paint and chrome are in great condition and really shines. There are few very minor light scuffs on the side of the doors, and a very small dent on the hood of the car. The engine has minor wear marks and light rust in areas such as the fan blades. The original side strobe stripes (V6H) are in good condition, with very minor wear or peeling. The interior of the car is in fantastic condition, and shows very little if any wear. It even includes the original steering column lock instructions on the driver side sun visor. The trunk is in great condition, and only has slight surface rust stains in a few areas. This is the same for the undercarriage. It is in very good condition, with only light surface rust on shocks, springs, and a few other places. This Cuda starts easy and runs strong, and is perfect working condition, including the motor, transmission, brakes, and steering. All of the instruments are in great working condition. The battery is new, and the oil was last changed in April of 2015. Included with the sale is the original window sticker. OWNERSHIP HISTORY: Built on April 15, 1970 at the Hamtramck assembly plant, this four (4) owner Mopar legend was originally sold new at H.L. Moore Chrysler Plymouth in Albany, CA. It was originally purchased by Marshall K of Livermore, CA. He was the brother-in-law of the owner of the dealership. A great guy and avid car collector named Jon K out of the Minneapolis, MN area, acquired the AAR Cuda (as well as a 1964 Plymouth Fury) from the original owner in the late 1970s. The car had just over 30,000 miles on it at this time, and Jon bought it at the age of 40 to add to his fast growing car collection. Jon was early to recognize the future growing values of classic cars, and recognized the AAR Cuda as a special car that would only increase in value. As such, the car was acquired to become part of his collection and appreciate in value, and not to drive. Jon informed me that he removed the driver’s side hood spring when storing, as to limit the upward bowing of the fiberglass hood. Nearing retirement, Jon sold the the AAR Cuda as part of a block of other cars he had collected. The Cuda was sold in January 2013 at the Mecum Auction, at which time the actual mileage had increased to only 33,232 miles. Due to both its originality and rich racing history, Ray Evernham acquired the car to add to his collection of cars displayed in Mooresville, NC. For those of you that watch AmeriCarna, you know that Ray is a great car lover, and seeks out unique and interesting cars with a lot of history and originality. One of Ray’s bucket-list cars had always been a white 1958 Impala like the one from his favorite movies - American Graffiti. Ray contacted me earlier this year about my 1958 Impala. My Impala was not only the same look and color to the Impala in American Graffiti, but was very original and in great condition, featured a # match 348 tri-power motor, and had very low mileage at only 39K miles. After completely verifying the originality of the Impala, we agreed on a partial trade for the Impala for a car from his collection of over 80 classics and race cars. Included in the pictures featured in this listing are pictures of the AAR Cuda as part of the Ray Evernham collection of cars in North Carolina, and a picture of Ray with the 1958 Impala acquired as part of the transaction for the AAR Cuda. Ray mentioned how much he loves the 1958 Impala in the November 2015 issue of Hemmings magazine that included a feature article on Ray and his impressive collection. There are also pictures of Jon K, the second owner of the AAR Cuda. They include pictures of the AAR Cuda when it was owned by Jon, as well as pictures of other cars that were or are still today part of Jon's impressive car collection. There is also a recent picture of Jon with the ORIGINAL Goodyear Polyglas GT E60-15s and G60-15 tires that came original on the AAR Cuda from the factory. I took this picture recently when I met with Jon in the Minneapolis, MN area. The ORIGINAL tires ARE INCLUDED with the purchase of the AAR Cuda. Finally, there is a picture of the AAR Cuda receiving Top Show Honors at the 2015 Le Concours de Livingston. A review of Hagerty valuation information shows that the AAR Cudas have not only been steadily increasing in value, but have experienced an especially sharp increase in value over the past few months. This special and unrestored 1970 AAR Cuda would be a great investment and fantastic additional to any Mopar collection.
